I was speaking to my spiritual guide today…
Or to be more precise, my life mentor. Or to just be really upfront about it, my best friend. As always, our conversation coasted itself over various topics until it reached the one where it could evolve into something to learn from. It was the topic of the future.
When you think about the future, what comes into your mind? Is it a fulfilled career? Maybe the perfect partnership or even children at some point? Well we got to talking about the future in blocks. Like 5 years from now, 10 years from now etc. It’s probably worth mentioning at this point that there is 50 years exactly in age between me and my best friend.
So it occurred to that each of us have a different interpretation of two things. Firstly what the future means in terms of this world and it’s existence and secondly what we as individuals want from it. If there is one thing that keeps coming up as something of a recurring theme in my thoughts is the concept of “choice”.
It’s interesting that at every stage of our lives, we are presented with choices. They vary in issue and severity but the basic obligation is always the same. To make a choice that is going to be the best thing for you and those around you at that specific point in time. What never seems to connect with the senses however is the constant push for change in our hearts and minds. What you consider to be a good choice now will more than likely be seen with different eyes in the future.
If I have learned anything from keeping a clear observation on life, it’s this: You can only but make the decision that’s right in the moment. Because the moment is all we have and it’s all we can count on. No one can predict the future so if it comes to pass that the decisions you make now weren’t the right ones to make, deal with it by making new decisions that reflect the moment you find yourself in. I come across people in daily life who are so afraid of following their dreams and passions because it means sacrifice and change. I guess I’m one of them too. But I’m slowly learning that we are not the only ones who make decisions in the moment. The ones you are afraid of disappointing and leaving behind do it too. In life you only have one person to answer to come nightfall, did you do yourself and your dreams justice?
